From Pool Time to School Time: How To Make the Switch from Summer to School as Painless as Possible
With school right around the corner, it’s time to start thinking about trading in your pool floaties for pencils and the ice cream for apples.

Help your little learner ease into school-mode while there’s still some time before the big first day. Here are a few tips and tricks you can integrate into your home to help make your child’s transition into the new school year as painless as possible.

  1. Restart Routines. It is important to give kids time to adjust back into their school routine. Around two weeks before school begins, start making bedtimes and morning alarms earlier while also regulating mealtimes to be more similar to those during your child’s school year.
  2. Keep Their Passions in Play. If your child discovered a new hobby or passion this summer, try to incorporate it into the school year through after school groups or clubs. This will allow them to continue their summer interests and hobbies the entire year!
  3. Sharpen Their Skills. This can be done through fun summer “homework” assignments such as identifying certain colors, animals, and objects that you encounter on walks or even having them work on word searches, crossword puzzles, and trivia. This will help your child focus, think, and encourage them to complete tasks from start to finish.
  4.  Go for a Test Run. For younger kids, it might be beneficial to take them on a trip to their school and help them get familiar with the new environment they will be stepping into in a few weeks.

Going back to school can be an extremely difficult adjustment, but it doesn’t have to be. Start putting these tips into place in your household during these last few weeks of summer and help your children make a smooth shift from summer to school this year!
