Dear Book Trust Family,

I hope everyone has enjoyed a wonderful summer!

I am so happy and grateful to have joined the mission of Book Trust and this extraordinary community of volunteers, teachers, parents, principals, education leaders, philanthropic trailblazers, and each of you who believes in the importance of providing every child the opportunity to experience the joy of reading and becoming a life-long learner.

My husband and I recently moved our family to Colorado from Port-au-Prince, Haiti, a beautiful country that we have been blessed to have made an important part of our lives. Although the worlds may seem far apart, I already feel very much at home here at Book Trust. In addition to sharing my love of Haitian coffee in the office, I have the continued opportunity to work with committed, talented, and passionate individuals who are tackling some of our world’s greatest challenges and addressing the very root causes of generational poverty with simple, cost-effective, and research-based solutions.

As I organize my own daughters’ supplies for the start of a new school year this week, I can’t help but reflect on the pride we take as parents in our children’s education. I have seen through my work nationally and internationally, that as parents, we all hold the common value that we will do everything possible to invest in our children’s success.  Although we know that access to quality and equitable education is the most important indicator for thriving families, communities, and societies, the reality is that no matter how hard some parents work, their children may lack the tools they need to perform well academically without effective programs like ours.

Thanks to your support and partnership, this school year an estimated 57,000 Book Trust students in 185 schools, across 21 states, will choose and own their books each and every month of the school year based on their own interests. Research shows (and we see first hand every day), that book choice and ownership change the culture of literacy for a child, for his/her classroom, and ultimately for his/her family at home. This small investment made today, creates a long-term and sustainable impact in a child’s life and for our community as a whole.

We are committed to inspiring kids’ passion for reading, and our team will be working tirelessly with you to do all that we can to share the joy of reading and love of learning with all children who can benefit from Book Trust’s program.

I want to wish everyone a wonderful “Back to School” and send a very special thank you to our teachers and education leaders. You are the heart of the Book Trust family and we are grateful for all you do to support our children’s educational success. I cannot wait for the opportunity to meet many of you this year!

With gratitude,

Tiffany
