HOW
IT WORKS |
| |
Each
month, participating children choose and purchase
up to three books. We use eligibility for the free/reduced lunch program as our loose guideline, and Book Trust operates seamlessly
and invisibly in classrooms. |
| |
- Book Trust and community members identify funding sources in a start-up area, and we identify a volunteer within each school to be the training and BT 'go to' person.
- After a brief training (about 45 minutes), teachers are ready to start up their classrooms! They create an online Book Trust acount where they create a class list of participating students (they use this to report their order amounts to us every month), and are ready to go.
- Teachers distribute book Scholastic book
club catalogs to the entire class.
- Each eligible child has up to $7 to spend
each month. At home, children select the
books they want and return their orders
to school.
- Teachers compile their classroom’s
orders, login to their online Book Trust account to report them, and Book Trust sends payment to Scholastic at the beginning of every month.
- Soon after, books are delivered to classrooms!
- For every dollar their students spend,
each teacher accrues Scholastic bonus points
redeemed to bring additional books and resources
into their classrooms.
- Book Trust home office manages training, accounting,
oversight, and assessment. Through our partnership with Scholastic, we're able to leverage donor dollars even further and bring the program to more children.

As
many will remember, catalogs featuring dozens
of books each are sent home monthly with students.
Scholastic, Inc., the sole publisher of the
nearly 40 catalogs, has over 60 years experience
running book clubs within the schools.
Using Scholastic as our distributor, we’re able
to streamline all program infrastructure, administration,
and educator training.

very educating. Every time somebody
turns on the set, I go into the other
