Thanksgiving Gratitude

Ever wonder what it's like to be on the ground as a Book Trust educator? Katie from Nebraska, wrote in to share the inspiring daily experiences she has with her students and their newly donated books.

Our endless thanks to Katie for igniting a passion for reading in young minds and to you, our Book Trust community, for making life-changing donations to educators like Katie and her students.

To Whom it May Concern,

I personally want to take the time to thank you for the donation of books from Book Trust. What a wonderful gift to give — books to needy children. My heart melts every time I think about how excited my kids are when it comes to Book Trust. At the beginning of the month, my 2nd graders shop for the books they want. I love how it’s their choice. Some choose fiction, while others choose nonfiction. Some prefer picture books over chapter books and vice versa. After shopping for books and I submit the order, we watch the calendar each day to see when our box will arrive. I absolutely love when that special day arrives and our big box of surprises shows up. I wish you could see the faces of my students when our secretary delvers our box of books — it is priceless. My students are so delighted to get their new books. They love writing their names in them, knowing they own these books. They immediately cuddle up with the new books and are on task, reading to explore the new adventure of the book. What a perfect picture for a teacher as well as a donor who wants to put more books in needy children’s hands.

At the beginning of the school year, my students mentioned they barely had any books at home. After a few months of Book Trust donating books to my students, they are beyond fortunate to have the gift of reading at home with their families. This could not be possible without Book Trust. I have also received a few emails from parents stating how lucky their child is to get new books to keep at home. I appreciate your kind, giving heart. You are making a difference in these children’s lives.
